June 17, 2007: Montanita

My first weekend in Ecuador, and the group of us from the United States decided to embark to a beautiful beach town that we'd heard of. Little did we, or I for that matter, know that we were embarking not only on an adventure, but a weekend filled with craziness in its purest form.

We arrived at this small beach town, and checked into our hostel. When I say it is a small beach town, I meant it is a very little pueblo, sitting quaintly on the beach front of one of the most amazing beaches I've experienced in my lifetime.

Upon entering our hostel, I saw a very good-looking young man, who I ended up conversing with: Doran, from Israel, a piece of candy for the eyes.

After throwing our stuff in our rooms and hastily putting on our swimsuits, we ventured out to the dark ocean, as it was inching past dusk. The waves were enormous, and crashed to the shore like thunder. We stripped off our clothing, and ran joyously to the waterfront. We could not stop at knee-deep. The cool water was refreshment to the heat that our bodies were adjusting to in this new country. We jumped through the waves and the water was not only quenching to my body, but to my soul. Above the roaring waves and splashing of our bodies hopping through them was the laughter bubbling out of us. Ah! The purification and healing powers of water... rejuvenation of soul, and energy, and mentality.

We found a little place to eat dinner, and I went out on a limb for a grilled cheese and a mojito. The beginning of a wild and crazy night.

I have to stop there, because the entry stops there. The rest of the story will continue at some point. This is what has been so hard for me about trying to turn this into a memoir. As I was once labeled, I am "mentally disorganized" and this is something I have not even the slightest clue as to how to organize it all. I was scatter-brained when I wrote this, and I am still struggling to focus in the present. That's why I opted for a blog. I am hoping that I will be able to get it all out there, and piece it together later.

If you are reading this, thank you. I am still tossing the coin as to how much I want to write over the internet. However, this is just the beginning of a story that even I still can't believe actually occurred... and it happened to me. Hang in there, because the braver I get, the more colorful the story becomes.

More to come soon....
