Photography and me

I sort of stumbled upon photography. My first camera was a 35mm Canon Rebel Ti that required FILM. Remember film? I truly appreciate the art of using film, but my goodness, digital really does save a lot of money!

I get teased a lot for having horrible luck with cameras. They get stolen, or broken, or lost and it just happens to have become a repetitive thing. I think I am on my fifth digital power shoot camera. In my defense, I get a lot of use out of my cameras. I start taking pictures and get into this zone. I love digital macro, because I love to zoom in and see details I've never seen before. If I had a microscope, I'd probably be a scientist. I could spend hours in a garden, park or any patch of woods. I like looking at things from different perspectives, and a camera is magnificent at obliging these.

Unfortunately, one of my stolen camera's was the one I had in Ecuador. I lost a lot of great photos. The photos I do have are the ones I had put on facebook. Good ol' facebook is like my memory keeper. As artsy fartsy as I'd love for this blog to be, the photos I do have are mostly of people and touristy people. Hopefully in the next few years I will be able to return to Ecuador, and sufficiently photograph some of the things in my excerpts.

Ecuador is a beautiful place with a vast natural majority. I could spend years capturing it through the lens of a camera. There are beaches, the Galapagos Islands, the rainforest, volcanoes, not to mention the houses built up on hills. It is quite a site. I forgot to mention that Ecuador is on the equator. For those of you who don't know, Ecuador is Spanish for Equator. I had some crazy experiences during my second time in this country, and still love it. It is genuinely beautiful in culture, landscape, and diversity. In my opinion, it's a diamond in the rough. It is my diamond in the rough.

I got some great photos in Ecuador that will never be seen. They are lost in transit somewhere, or perhaps nowhere. They existed, and they are gone. So that put me to a challenge: to create with words the right details in order to convey the true identity that this country intrigues me with. Details, angles, and perception are my focus when photographing as of late, so I will aim to fulfill these things with my words.

Last, I want to share a photograph that my Dad took when he came to see me in Guayaquil. It is phenomenal, and if you look closely, I just so happen to be in it. Hint: I'm wearing a pink tank top.
This is such an incredible visual to portray the Ecuador that I have come to love, cherish, and appreciate. Props to Taylor Pursell! Good eye!

More coming soon...
